Introductory Text:
This course will introduce you to soft furnishing and curtain making. It is aimed at learners who may wish to take their skills to a professional level.
Target Group:
This is a subsidised course and priority is given to people from the borough of Lambeth who receive state benefits.
Entry Requirements:
A short informal interview will establish the suitability of the applicant
Attendance:
1 day a week on Tuesdays

Course Content:
There are 2 units to complete:
Unit 1 - Design for craft is a common unit for all qualification at this level. It introduces you to the way in which design ideas develop so that you can take them forward into your chosen craft. Work is presented in an A3 display folder
Unit 2 - Practical Craft
A pair of lined curtains with a commercial heading.
A duvet cover with a decorative treatment, for example - appliqué, insertion, colouring, stencilling, manipulated fabric panels or similar.
A functional, decorative cushion with a fastening/closing.
A folder of work.
Furthermore, you learn about fabric technology, make samples of different techniques and learn about designers and current trends

Resources:
You will have the use of all equipment in the workroom which includes:- LARGE TABLES, SEWING MACHINES, OVERLOCKERS, IRONS & METAL RULERS.
Material Costs:
You will need to supply some fabrics and haberdashery but most stationary will be provided as well as most of the sewing equipment and art materials. Some materials are obtainable from the tutor at a subsidised cost. Price list available in the classroom.
Tuition Fee:
£35 per term (3 terms in total) + City & Guilds registration fee of £37.50 (waived in circumstances of hardship)
